Not much of substance, really
OK, so I didn’t make good on my tweeted pledge to update every day this month. Sue me. My real intention was to see if I could get any momentum going at all. It’s been a few days and I feel the need to write tonight, so that seemed to work. I could use the excuse that my D.C. hotel didn’t offer complimentary WiFi, but that would just be a lie.
(And by the way, seriously, screw any hotel that doesn’t have complimentary WiFi nowadays. Or one that charges almost $20 for a “continental” breakfast. I think we have, in America, come to equate “continental” with “free.” That’s just how it works. I went and double-checked that I’d read the hotel info right on its Web site, and sure enough, I had. “High-speed Internet access is available,” sure, for $12.95 per 24 hours, as noted in smaller print, further down the page. What an effing ripoff. The Marriott Renaissance will never get my business again, that’s for sure. Good lord, even the rinky-dink motel I stayed at in Saranac Lake had free WiFi. I digress.)
Anyway, it was a wonderful day off in observance of Columbus Day. And by “day off,” I mean I did the same thing I’ve done pretty much every day since the end of August. And by “observance,” I mean reading a bunch of snarky tweets. And by “Columbus Day,” I mean the day we celebrate Europe’s “discovery” of North America and their subsequent plundering and pillaging of said land to the point of driving the natives to tears. Or down a Trail of Tears. Something like that. In other words, I think what we’re celebrating today is being on the winning side of history.
Cheers to that?
